Mangatha Coutre – Engeyum. Epodum.
Madras these days seems to have acquired a very international taste. We’re all about German cars, American contemporary art, Australian bikinis, Belgian chocolates and … Dutch food??
But quell the essential Madrasi?? Fat chance!!
Today in madras, we get the best of itialian gelato – and we love flaunting our refined tastes – like this -
But what we REALLY like – are the local Nannari Flavoured, flourescent coloured susbstitutes like this -
And oh yes, we all fly abroad for a couple of months a year. We invade Boston, Paris, Milan and Munich. And we bring back our loot to flaunt at neighbourhood Upanayanams (thread ceremonies) and nichiyadarthams (engagements). Its all about the GLAMOUR. That’s what. Don’t we girls just LOVE our Lacroixes and Blahniks? Not to mention the Loubotins. That’s because now, we go for this -
But let’s face it. we hate the heels. we love our flats. we love love love our shiny shimmery 100-rupees-on-the-t.nagar-platform-million-bucks-on-my-feet shoes
and we buy them up like crazy, by the zillion, and wear them WAY more often than those epitomes of shoedom which jus’ lie in the closet anyway…
Then, there’s the fork thing. So? the whole world eats with forks and almost the whole world eats with chopsticks…. But we LOVE eating with our fingers!! Im even getting some non-indians seriously into it, here, in Holland. Hey, NOBODY can appreciate manga oorga with a fork! It’s in the fingers baby!!
POGO ROCKSSS!!!! and you know what else rocks?? CHutti TV!!!! I love!!!!
When I was shopping to come to Holland, i pillaged and laid to waste stores in madras – like Van Heusen for Women, Allen Solly and Giordano. But my FAVORITE part was when i got to go buy sarees to bring here with me!! Its SO amazingly versatile – the saree – its dignified while being seductive, modest and yet racy, and i think it makes for a completely sexy outfit – its appropriate for ANYTHING. :)
My mexican friend here wants to learn to wear our sarees
And all those girls want indian print materials and cotton kurtis. They love the colour and the vibrancy and the flavourful richness of our outfits! Check this one out!!
I love Madras!! And I miss it SO much!! Kisses to the salty marina air!! xoxoxo!

Gagged and Tagged
Some of those pics are us at Su’s crazy bday party!!
They tried everything to get me to like sangria – and failed miserably!! haha!! i cant stand alcohol – and sorry ro, but the sangria tasted like cough syrup and Im going NOWHERE near it EVER – next time maybe you can try champagne
on the nxp student’s allowance
lol – like THAT’s ever going to happen… i love applesap!!
The party ROCKED – like 30 people in a studio flat – german, swiss, dutch, french, swedish, columbian, equadorians (is that even right?), mexicans (my peeps!!!) indians and god knows how many other people – dancing bhangra, salsa, everything in between – n oh my god im horrible, but i LOVE to make drunk guys spell!!!!!!
its hilarious watching how people react to things when they’re drunk. i think humans are really themselves only when they’re drunk stupid. you get to see the real person raw and true behind all the facades, pretensions and multiple-masks.
But of course, in a party where that happens, the shit hits the fan. So I left quite early with the girls… was happily snuggled in sleep in my blankets, ten minutes after i left the party
And that’s just one night of the weekend. The other two nights I had wonderful dinner cook outs with friends at their places – about 6-10 people, cosy flats, great warm comfort food, laughing, happy, friendly faces, and so much hope hope hope in every heart! I love the candid, down to earth, happy and sanguine student heart.
Friday night! Ro and su did a great job!! Lasagna, rajma-chawal and DELICIOUS spicy mango pickle – ah! heaven!!
Tonight’s French-Dutch cook out was zo LEKKER!! (so tasty!!) Traditional french cheese cake, walnut salad with honey, out-of-this-world apple pancakes (i LOVE apple pancakes!! thanks jan!! you the man!!) and mind blowing chocolate cake for dessert!! Oh my god – iv had like a zillion calories today!!!!! But Neomi, girl, you ROCK!! keep cooking!!
Edita Krishnan has tagged me but its 3 o clock at night and I’ve been studying electromagnetics all morning!! I think il de-tag tomorrow. Promise peeps!!
lots of love y’all

Bipolar, Manchester, tensor equation

Absence of DC reduces the power
here, my zoned out mind begins to hover -
around when life got this complicated,
tough luck, and the cold world serrated,
chill you down to the ‘cockles’ of the heart
the known world, and the unknown, worlds apart.
